Silverton FAQs

  • Silverton is located in the heart of the San Juan Mountain Range in Southwest Colorado. It is approximately 50 miles north of Durango, 65 miles south of Montrose, and 350 miles southwest of Denver (which is roughly a 6 hour drive away depending on road conditions.) Silverton is surrounded on either side by mountain passes that are avalanche prone and close occasionally during storms. A 4WD vehicle is not essential but will certainly be beneficial, especially in snowy conditions.  For current road conditions, visit the COTrip website.

  • Silverton is recognized as one of Colorado’s last undeveloped mountain towns and as such is home to a wealth of outdoor pursuits which embrace its rugged, alpine setting. We advise you bring warm layers, rain layers, protective footwear, and plenty of food / snacks on any trail. None of Silverton’s trails are beginner due to the elevation and how steep trails tend to be.
