Silverton is located in the heart of the San Juan Mountain Range in Southwest Colorado. It is approximately 50 miles north of Durango, 65 miles south of Montrose, and 350 miles southwest of Denver (which is roughly a 6 hour drive away depending on road conditions.) Silverton is surrounded on either side by mountain passes that are avalanche prone and close occasionally during storms. A 4WD is not essential but will certainly be beneficial, especially in bad conditions. For current road conditions, visit the COTrip website.
